Who we are

TEND is a brand of The ONmedia Collective (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/110700/07, a company registered in South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information you give us through TEND.

Our Information Officer is [INFORMATION OFFICER PENDING]. You can reach them at [PRIVACY EMAIL PENDING], or by post at [REGISTERED ADDRESS PENDING].

What we collect

Your contact details, such as your name and email address, when you buy TEND, keep a TEND Bearing result, register your interest or ask us about a team programme.

Your answers to the TEND statements, and the time spent on each one, which we use for the checks on how consistently you answered.

Your report, which is built from your answers.

Your answers to the four price questions at the end of TEND Heading and TEND Direction. These never appear in your report.

Order details, such as what you bought and whether you used an invite code. Payments are handled by PayFast, and we never see your card details.

Work details you choose to share on the practitioner and team forms, such as your organisation and role.

Technical information that keeps TEND secure and working. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived records of requests to the site, such as the page asked for, the time and the internet address it came from, and we hold those addresses for up to ten minutes to stop anyone sending too many requests. When something goes wrong in your browser, the page sends us the error message, the page name and your browser type, without your name, email address or answers.

TEND Bearing answers

Your TEND Bearing answers are not saved unless you enter your email to keep your result. If you do, they are saved with your consent and carry over to TEND Heading, so you do not answer them twice.

The TEND research pool

Before your first TEND Heading or TEND Direction, we ask a few optional questions about you and your work: your role, your sector, how long you have been working, your age band, your gender, the country you work in and your first language. We keep these answers only if you tick the box to join the TEND research pool.

If you work in South Africa, we also ask for your population group, using the groups in South Africa’s employment equity reporting. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act this is special personal information, so we keep it only if you tick a second, separate box agreeing to it, and we use it only to check that TEND works fairly for every group. You can withdraw that agreement at any time in the same way.

In the pool, your answers and your TEND results are used without your name or email address. They help us check that TEND works fairly for different groups of people and, once enough people have taken part, build the comparison groups that make reports more accurate. They never appear in your report or in front of anyone at your organisation. You can leave the pool at any time by emailing tend@theonmediacollective.com, and we will remove your answers from it.

How we use it

To give you your result and your report, and to email you your receipt and the link that brings you back to the same question, on any device.

To check how consistently a set of answers was given, so that your report can carry a validity status.

To arrange a debrief, if you chose one.

To reply to you about the practitioner programme or a team programme, if you asked us to.

To improve TEND, using answers and price responses that have been combined so that no one person can be identified.

If you joined the TEND research pool, to check that TEND works fairly for different groups of people and to build its comparison groups, as described above.

Development only

TEND is for development only. It is never used for selection, promotion or any employment decision. If your organisation bought TEND for you, the people who arranged it can see whether you have finished, and never your result. Nobody at your organisation sees your result unless you say so in writing.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only with:

PayFast, to take payment securely in South African rand.

The companies that host TEND and send our emails, under contracts that require them to protect your information.

The practitioner who leads your debrief, if you book one.

Where your information is stored outside South Africa, we make sure it is protected to the standard POPIA requires. Our hosting location is [HOSTING LOCATION PENDING].

How long we keep it

We keep your answers and reports for [RETENTION PERIOD PENDING], so that you can upgrade from TEND Heading within 12 months and read a retake beside last year's report. Enquiry details are kept for [ENQUIRY RETENTION PENDING]. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, and withdraw any consent you have given. Email [PRIVACY EMAIL PENDING] and we will reply within [RESPONSE TIME PENDING].

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies and storage

TEND keeps a small amount of information on your device so that the site works. This essential storage is always on:

Your place in the questions, so that save and exit brings you back to the same question.

A kept TEND Bearing result, if you chose to keep it.

The 30-minute TEND Bearing offer, so the timer is real and never restarts.

Your cookie choice, so we do not ask you again on every page.

Analytics cookies help us learn which pages help people most. We use Google Analytics, which sets cookies whose names begin with _ga, and only if you choose Accept all. It tells us which public pages people visit, roughly where they are and how they found TEND. It never runs on the pages where you answer TEND, read your report or sign in, and we switch off Google's advertising features. Google processes this information on its servers, some of them outside South Africa. If you change your choice to Essential only, the analytics cookies are removed. We do not use advertising cookies. You can change your choice at any time.

Change cookie settings

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you by email if the change affects how we use information you have already given us. Questions about this policy are welcome at [PRIVACY EMAIL PENDING].
